California Bed and Breakfast Budget Hotel Guest House Accommodation
California is the most densely populated US state, with vibrant Hispanic, Asian and African American communities, and is one of the most linguistically diverse areas in the world. It borders with the Pacific Ocean, Oregon, Nevada, Arizona and the Mexican state of Baja California. California's geography is rich, complex and varied. The California Central Valley lies in its heart, bounded by mountain ranges to all sides. This valley is the agricultural hub of the state as well as being of national importance in food production, while other significant economic regions are Silican Valley and Tech Coast to the south, and important wine-producing areas such as Napa Valley and Sonoma Valley. California is perhaps best known as the home of the American entertainment industry in Hollywood. Its capital is Sacramento, with the four largest cities being Los Angeles, San Diego, San Jose and San Francisco.
California is a state of superlatives. Here, you can visit the Sierra Nevada mountains in the east, with Mount Whitney the highest peak in the contiguous states, and the incredible scenery of the glacially-carved domes of the Yosemite Valley. The southeast is dominated by the Mojave Desert region, with Death Valley well known as the hottest place in the Western Hemisphere. Near San Francisco, at the Sequoia National Park, you can admire the majestic giant sequoia trees, the largest living organisms on Earth.
The Bay Area, consisting of the metropoltan areas of San Fancisco, Oakland, Berkeley and San Jose and stretching north to the Napa Valley and south to Santa Cruz, provides in itself a fabulous selection of visitor attractions. Enjoy the sophistication of shopping in San Francisco, a ride on the famous cable cars, lunch in Chinatown and a tour of the infamous Alcatraz. The view of the Bay Bridge with mist rolling in is one of America's iconic sights.
This is an area where you can really indulge in a gastronomic pilgramage, with California's vast range of dining experiences offering outrageously delicious Mediterranean-style cuisine and with unique locally-grown and foraged foods in the North, as well as sophisticated seafood and Mexican-style culinary delights in the beach paradise of the South. There are over 80,000 restaurants throughout California so the options are endless and the best cooking is absolutely world-class.
You can relax and hang out on the piers and boardwalks of Long Beach, Santa Monica, Santa Barbara and Santa Cruz, perhaps visiting also Stearns Wharf and Malibu Pier. Or go for the full-on family fun of Disneyland, based in Orange County. Inland, you can visit the Gold Country where California's past is everywhere to be found. Tour the historic district of Old Sac or descend Angel's Camp. These places celebrate the region's Gold Rush history. Meanwhile, the streets are not paved with gold, but on the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame, you will see over 2.5 miles the sidewalk which honours its most celebrated stars.
