Indiana Bed and Breakfast Budget Hotel Guest House Accommodation
This Midwestern state is named after its first native settlers, who are commemorated at the Angel Mounds State Historic Site, near Evansville, which is one of the best preserved prehistoric sites in the US, the site of a large community of people of the Middle Mississippian culture from 1100 to 1450 A.D. Indiana has in total 24 state parks, nine man-made reservoirs and hundreds of lakes. The northwest corner of the state is densely populated, being a part of the Chicago metropolitan area. This area and the central region of the state consists of flat farmland with some forested areas. Indianapolis, the state capital, is situated in the central region. Attractions near the capital include the award-winning Conner Prairie Museum with its family-orientated visitor experience, the Indianapolis Zoo in the White River state park, and the Monou Recreation Trail. Indianapolis is also the venue for various major sporting events, such as the acclaimed and historic Indianapolis 500 motor speedway race. The speedway was founded in 1906 by Carl Fisher, and the first Indianapolis 500 Mile Race was held in 1911. It was Anton Hulman Jr who bought the track in 1945 and spent millions of dollars improving it to turn the facility into the venue for the ‘Greatest Spectacle in Racing’. Despite rain delays, deaths and a power struggle among the racing community, there has been an Indianapolis 500 every year since 1946.
