Nevada Bed and Breakfast Budget Hotel Guest House Accommodation
Much of Nevada is a bleak wilderness, stretching from the Mojave Desert in the south to the Great Basin in the North, broken up by various mountain ranges running north-south, and experiencing hot summers and sub-freezing winters. Unregulated gambling was commonplace in early Nevada mining towns but outlawed in 1909 as part of a nationwide anti-gaming crusade. Due to subsequent declines in mining resources and the general decline of the agricultural sector during the Great Depression, Nevada re-legalized gambling on March 19, 1931. At the time, its main proponents thought it would be a quick fix until the economy took an upturn. Today, with the emergence of the amazing city of Las Vegas as the gambling capital of the world, with gambling now being the state’s main source of revenue, Nevada has never looked back. As well as gambling, the state is best known for its easy marriage and divorce proceedings.
Las Vegas is renowned as a gaming, entertainment and nightlife mecca, but has developed into an incredibly diverse tourist and business-traveller destination. The Las Vegas Strip is a hotbed of gaming action, lavish hotels, casinos and numerous quirky wedding chapels and venues to tie the knot. As well as all this, you will be surprised by the exceptional quality of some of its top restaurants, its unbeatable shopping and an exuberant arts and culture scene.
Away from all the glitz of the brights lights of Vegas, one of Nevada’s main destination for tourists is Lake Tahoe. Few places can compare to the pristine beauty and unrivaled majesty of this alpine lake, the highest in the country. It boasts crystal clear waters, secluded bays and coves, and some of the most scenic vistas imaginable. In the winter months, Tahoe provides incredible facilities in this beautiful setting. You can go alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, tubing, snowmobiling, ice skating, ice fishing and if your limbs are left aching after all that activity, you can just take in the winter landscape during a ride on a horse-drawn sleigh. At nearby Reno, enjoy the spectacle of Nevada’s truly amazing night sky. Because there is very little light pollution, you can see thousands of stars, constellations, meteors, planets and other celestial bodies with the naked eye, or alternatively through the telescope of the Fleischmann Planetarium and Science Center.
Other destinations in which draw in many visitors to marvel at the beauty of the great outdoors include the Red Rock Canyon, the Valley of Fire state park and Pyramid Lake. Those hoping to celebrate lifelong love can visit Lovelock, or if the history of precious metal mining is what interests you, then check out the historic mining towns of Tonpah and Virginia City. At Carson City, visit the site where not gold, but silver (and lots of it) was struck in 1859 at the Cornstock Lode. This transformed the fortunes of the place and it became a boomtown, a story which many historic buildings and museums chronicle so effectively that it has been voted as the ‘Best Western Historical Site’.
Finally, here is the ultimate opportunity to get away from it all, and take a trip on Highway 50, ‘The loneliest road in America’, where the great desolate openness and emptiness of the space gives you a feeling of the true American spirit of freedom.
