New Hampshire Bed and Breakfast Budget Hotel Guest House Accommodation
One of the states in the New England region of the northeastern US, New Hampshire’s recreational attractions include skiing and other winter sports, observing the fall foliage, summer cottages along many lakes, and motor sports at the New Hampshire International Speedway. The state contains a diverse range of landscapes: the more mountainous wooded northern and central regions of the Great North Woods and the White Mountains Range, as well as the Lakes Region, the 18-mile Seacoast, the Merrimack Valley, the Monadnock Region and the Dartmouth-Lake Sunapee area. The largest lake is Lake Winnipesaukee, in the east-central part.
For the dedicated skier, there are a few excellent destinations in New Hampshire: the Wildcat Mountain Ski Area in Jackson has been voted top resort for its spectacular scenery, and offers classic New England skiing and riding. At Attitash, you can ski two peaks in the winter, and in the summer, play on North America’s longest Alpine slides, EuroBungy Trampoline, and go mountain biking and horse riding. Visit the Mount Washington Cog Railway and climb aboard this incredible train, the first in the world of its kind, to reach the top of the highest peak in New England.
The state is sometimes known as the ‘Mother of Rivers’. Five of the great streams of New England originate in its granite hills. The Lakes region offers a wide variety of summer accommodation amid the beautiful lush green landscape with every opportunity to relax on sandy beaches, take a boat cruise to some of the scenic islands, learn to sail, or go canoeing, riding, hunting or fishing. Throughout New Hampshire, family farms have been a cornerstone of life for centuries. In Barrington, Warren Farm starts off the season in June with strawberry picking, and then moves on to raspberries, corn, grapes and finally pumpkins. From Warren’s you can head southeast to Newfields where you’ll find an organic farm stand. Or drive to Stratham where you’ll find farms with herbs, corn and more raspberries. In July or August, do not miss the blueberry picking. And if you happen to be passing through on a Wednesday, be sure to stop by the Stratham Hill Park Farmer’s Market. If you appreciate food, the seacoast town of Portsmouth offers a superb choice of international cuisine within its many acclaimed restaurants. If your focus is on ‘organic’, you may make a special trip to the Shaker Table Restaurant, at Canterbury Shaker Village. This 400-acre museum includes organic gardens that supply the restaurant with fruit, vegetables, herbs and edible flowers.
In fact, the towns of Concord and Portsmouth, in the southern part of the state, have a whole variety of attractions to delight both adults and children. From the 300-year-old fort and historic harbour of the town of New Castle, to Portsmouth’s amazing Children’s Museum housed in a wonderful old building with a clock tower, and then Concord´s Museum of New Hampshire History and Planetarium, there is a wealth of beautifully presented information about the area’s fascinating past, as well as great shopping along elegant New England main streets with their splendid Georgian and colonial architecture. Many of these mansions are open to visits and contain wonderful exhibits and antiques. Winter in New Hampshire is full of candlelight strolls and horse-drawn wagons; bonfires, hot cider and home-made cookies.
