North Dakota Bed and Breakfast Budget Hotel Guest House Accommodation
North Dakota is a state located in the Midwestern region of the US. The Missouri River flows through the western part of the state and forms Lake Sakakawea behind the Garrison Dam. This half of the state is hilly and is abundant in fossil fuels. The Central region is divided into the Drift Prairie and the Missouri Plateau, while the Eastern region consists of the flat Red River Valley, whose fertile soil supports a large agriculture industry.
There are a wealth of attractions to delight the visitor throughout the state. If you would like to experience what life is like on a working ranch, for example, you could spend some time at the Knife River Ranch in Golden Valley, or have an adventure on horseback and enjoy a unique culinary experience on top of one of the highest bluffs, offering a spectacular view of the scenic Badlands and town of Medora, while sinking your teeth into a ribeye fondued 'western style'. Travel along the Killdeer Mountain Four Bears Scenic Byway for 64 miles from the Killdeer Mountains to the Little Missouri River breaks and Badlands, and witness a unique and enchanting landscape in one of the most scenic areas of the west. The rich culture and history of the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara (Three Affiliated Tribes) paired with the western ranch and rodeo lifestyles, along with opportunities for outdoor recreation, provide visitors with an enthralling venue for adventure. At the Lake Sakakawea state park, enjoy superb facilities including a full-service marina, boat rentals and a fishing guide service alongside other water-based recreational sports. The Turtle River state park in Arvilla offers a wonderful setting for summer picnics, and in the winter is a popular destination for those keen to go cross-country skiing and sledding.
In the North Central region, step back into the past and visit the Eastwood Park National Historic District featuring Princess Anne, English Tudor and Craftsman style architecture, originally the homes to some of the founding families of the town of Minot, or visit some of the historic sites commemorating battlefields, such as the Big Mound Battlefield State Historic Site, and the Whitestone Hill Battlefield Historic SIte, marking a major battle between troops of the 1863 expedition of General Alfred Sully and the Sioux. This site, near the town of Kulm, has a memorial and an interpretive museum.
There are a number of regions in North Dakota where important paleontological finds have taken place, and the Pioneer Trails Regional Museum will allow visitors to participate in local digs. Fargo, in the Western region, is home to the Dinosaurs and More retail store which displays, like a museum, many authentic fossils and dinosaur related items, as well as bug displays, butterflies, wood carvings, gemstones, rocks and novelty items relating to these prehistoric beasts. The Discover Museum covers themes relating to science and natural history, also focusing on dinosaurs and extinct animals.
North Dakota is known as the duck factory in the Lower 48 states, boasting some of the best duck hunting in the country for birds raised within its borders - and some of the best hunting for birds making southern migrations from nesting grounds in Canada. Upland hunters come from around the country for a shot at ring-necked pheasants, sharp-tailed grouse and Hungarian partridge. Big-game hunts are also available and more often than not, hunters go home not only with game, but with wonderful stories about their adventure to share for years to come.
