Nearby conical mounds contained burials and implements characeristic of the prehistoric Adena people, however it is thought that the Fort Ancient people built the Serpent Mound about 1,000 years ago. You can find it near the town of Peebles. The area of the magnificent Hocking Hills provide a wonderful backdrop for outdoor pursuits, covering more than 7 state park areas, nature preserves and forests.
