Washington Bed and Breakfast Budget Hotel Guest House Accommodation
Washington state is located in the Pacific Northwest region of the US. The high mountains of the Cascade Range run north-south, bisecting the state. While Western Washington has a milder marine-influenced climate, and supports dense forests of conifers and unique areas of temperate rain forest, Eastern Washington has a relatively dry climate with areas of steppe and desert. Mount Rainier, the highest peak in the state, is covered with more glacial ice than any other peak in the lower 48 states. It is situated within one of three National Parks, the others being North Cascades National Park and the Olympic National Park. The state also contains a number of national forests, protected lands, wilderness designated areas, military-related reservations and Indian reservations.
Located on the Columbia River plateau, in the shadow of Mt. Adams, is the Yakama Indian Reservation. The Yakama were a tribe who lived in harmony with these lands for thousands of years and in consideration of the preservation of the remaining Yakama culture, much is closed to public access. It hs been set aside for Yakama Indians to continue ancient traditional subsistence practices like hunting and harvesting roots and berries. The Squaxin Island Tribe, on the other hand, invites you to come and discover their culture and past through thought-provoking artifacts including 100-foot long fish traps, recently excavated from an archaeological site, within a museum. Many of Washington's Indian residents have adopted artwork themes belonging to the northwest coast Indians who were noted for their totem poles, longhouses, dugout canoes and pictures of animals.
The Indians are only one of the state's ethnic groups which influence everything from music to dance and mouth-watering dining. There are many migrant Mexicans and Asians. Seattle's International DIstrict or ID is a vibrant community, where visitors can enjoy Asian restaurants, specialty shops, markets as well as the Wing Luke Asian Museum. While in Washington's largest city, visitors will enjoy the Seattle Aquarium, Science Fiction Museum and the Of Sea and Shore Museum in POrt Gamble. If you love to shop, outlet malls, retail malls, flea markets and farmers markets make Washington a shopper's bonanza. Hundreds of merchants make by hand what they sell in Seattle's Pike Place Market, while antique dealers and specialty shops sell art, photography, jewellery and other exclusive wares. Seattle also offers a vibrant cultural scene, with many fine galleries and performance venues.
Washington is a fantastic place to escape to for some outdoor recreation.
